This is my final assignment from Japanese Literature in Translation, JAPN 4010. We each had to pick a story from our selection of Japanese traditional stories and find a modern adaptation of said story, then write about how exactly that modern adaptation adapts the traditional story. I chose The Tale of the Heike which was adapted into a 2021 11-episode anime called The Heike Story. I was interested in the themes of non-permanence, how everything on this earth was destined to end.
This is my final assignment from Japanese Film. Students had to select a film from a Japanese director that we had previously discussed in class. I chose Hayao Miyazaki's The Castle of Cagliostro since I was already interested in both his non-Ghibli work and the Lupin III series.
