CU Singers

In Spring of 2025, I sung as an Alto in the CU Singers choir. We performed Cherubini's Requiem in C Minor.

It was easily one of the most challenging pieces I've had to work with so far. Not to mention the Offertorium movement in the requiem had us sing a fugue. I had never sung a fugue before, it's tricky to memorize since it has overlapping melodies from each part, so I needed to put the work in to make sure I knew my part.

All the work paid off in the concert. We sang with an orchestral accompaniment, and the resulting acoustics made us sound incredible. This was one of the most rewarding musical experiences of my life.

An onigiri I made in a Fall 2025 meeting. It had rice and furikake, very delicious.

I've been taking part in the Japanese Culture Association for a few years now. Technically I've been a part of the club since 2022, but I haven't been especially active until 2024-2025. We tend to do activities associated with Japanese culture, like celebrating Setsubun in February by throwing beans at someone dressed in an Oni mask, or making Japanese style parfaits, like the picture below. I'm glad even if it took me a while that I started to regularly participate since it let me bond with my peers.

A parfait I made in a Fall 2025 meeting. It had cake and fruit and ice cream and pocky. I wanted to make sure it looked cute and tasted delicious!

The karaoke machine the club used during our karaoke meeting. I missed a lot of words during the song I sung, but I think that's part of the spirit of karaoke.
